I have been on this magical and weird place called tumblr for nearly four years but I didn’t start posting my writing until about a year ago when most people didn’t give a shit (just like now!). “Magic Bootyhole” is one of my all time favorite Youtube videos and I’ve been trying to track it down for a long time now to no avail. Today is a holiday. Watch if you enjoy laughing and love.

What do you think about GIF culture? Like, Reddit and blogs such as What Should We Call Me that use gifs as a mode of expression. I once found it amusing, and I certainly enjoy a hilarious gif, but I would prefer a culture that knew how to do this sparingly. Mostly I just love the way you articulate your opinions and tend to agree with you have to say and would love to read your thoughts on it.

I fuckin’ love GIFs, bro (please put this sentence on my tombstone- wait a second, are you ready for this? here it is: wombstone). But I agree they can be used too often. My least favorite aspects of ‘GIF culture’ are these:

When someone makes a gif of a person saying a funny or interesting line of dialogue, with said dialogue subtitled on the gif, but the person’s mouth does not say the complete line or is moving too quickly/slowly to accurately match up with you reading the words in your head. Shit’s lazy bro. And if you want to exhibit the full line and it’s too long to squeeze into a GIF then just post the still, ya dingus.
I don’t know if there is a reason for this but it seems that there are a lot of television blogs on tumblr that post a grid of GIFs from a particular scene and they tint each image with this horrible orange/yellow glow-y bullshit. Do you know what I’m talking about? Way too lazy to find an example but I’m sure a Harry Potter one will pop up on my dash in about two minutes.
An unsatisfying loop. When you watch a GIF and feel gypped because it doesn’t become complete. Or something like that.

Now, I guess these qualms are more execution based. But I think in general I don’t like many quote-GIFs. And when I say quote-GIF I don’t mean that it necessarily HAS to be quoting a TV show or movie, but any GIF that highlights a portion of a video. Like a GIF of a guy falling off a treadmill. It’s funny, sure, but overall there are too many. Organic GIFing, as in someone illustrating their own material or modifying someone else’s work for animation, is preferable. It’s an art form in itself and there are a lot of ideas and feelings you can articulate through a small animation that you might not be able to do as well in an other medium.

Here is a crude representation of a thing that happens to my eye balls every now and then that is quickly followed by a dope head-ache. It is similar to “floaters” but thicker and usually a kind of shimmering distortion of light, as if some piece of rope was stuck on my eye ball and that piece of rope only fractured light when you looked at it. They usually stay to the sides and dodge when you try to focus on them. Anyone else experience this bullshit?

edit: Amy said she gets prisms before migraines and I forgot to describe this like that, but it’s very similar. The rope-like transparent distortion also looks like a prism, a squiggly, floating, painful prism.
